Don't be a Bullshitter...

We're watching.
That's our mission - to call out the BS that's making this field look stupid.
You know, the charging people for certificates, the being certified in the first place, the courses that you charge for that teach people how to hunt ghosts when they can learn it on a ton of decent websites or well written books for free, the making up evidence to get on TV (you know who you are), the head lamps, the baggy t-shirts, the orbs, the "phantom voices" that are really motorcycles in the background - all of it.
Don't make ghost hunters be the next Trekkies.

Love,
The Ghost Divas

So, you're a certified ghost hunter, huh?

Pray tell, where did you get certified and who certified you? And where did they get the omnipotent power to certify anyone to be a ghost hunter? Are you serious? Ghost hunting, paranormal investigating, whatever you call it - is not a science no matter how much we would like it to be and none of us are scientists unless we have received a degree in science from an accredited university. We can read books and we can learn from people that have been doing it longer than us, but frankly, I think if you were duped into paying anyone to give you some kind of certificate, you may have had a lapse in judgment. There is no real course you must pass to be a ghost hunter. There are no books you must read to be a ghost hunter.

Are you charging people to "analyze" their EVP or pictures? Really? Again - what makes you an "expert"? There are no "experts" in ghost hunting. You can act professionally and you can obtain knowledge, but that does not make you an "expert". You can't be an expert in something that there are no real answers to. I can print anyone a certificate but it won't be worth a thing.
Seriously, those of us that do this are rarely taken seriously anyway and then people go about handing out goofy certificates to each other and claiming to be ghost experts. Get over yourselves, you're not all that. You're a ghost hunter. That's an awful lot like being a Trekkie. TV has glorified our hobby quite a bit and it is gaining new respect (although some of the TV hype is not how I wish to be portrayed) so while we're in the culture spotlight for a while, why not do what we can to make positive strides rather than touting false credentials? It's like saying you got your MD from an online correspondence course. The general public might fall for it, but your "peers" are not.

So what's all the ruckus about?

Well, it's silly, really.  We have been very vocal with our opinions on the ghost hunting field lately and not everyone likes it.  Guess what?  This ain't a popularity contest.
We don't believe that teams "must" wear matching t-shirts.  We believe in maintaining our autonomy and allowing our teams to be made up of individuals.  This seems to make some people batty - why they are so concerned with our business is beyond us, but whatever.  If you want to match - OK, we have no issue with that, just don't tell us we have to.  And frankly, t-shirts aren't the most attractive pieces of clothing  in the first place and when you're going to be in photos and videos, don't you want to look decent?  T-shirts make a girl look frumpy and you never know when you might end up on the news or a video that gets broadcast and there you are looking like crap - what a proud moment.  Oh, it's all about the science and looks don't matter?  BS.  Because people like us will make fun of you if you look like crap.
Next issue other people have with us: use of too much gear and the fact that we speak out against it.  If you are not totally educated on all the ins and outs of your "gear" and what its readings mean, what use is it?  Our groups focus on EVP, history, and photography so our "gear" of choice includes tape recorders, microphones, research resources, and video and still cameras.  I'm sorry, but an ultra cool EMF thingymabob doesn't help me one bit in locating the history of a home, recording an EVP, or capturing something on film.  We've been accused of doing nothing more than "running around abandoned buildings with a tape recorder" when that is simply not the truth and is something that people that can't think outside the box resort to.  If they don't understand our methods or don't agree with them, they make fun and berate and belittle.  I would like to know where there were ever any "rules" put into place - last I checked each team makes up their own rules and does what works for them.
The funniest thing about all this is that the same people will tout that these kinds of things are personal choice - so why are they in our business and trying to make us look bad?  Don't they realize how childish they look every time they attempt to start new drama about something as stupid as a freakin' t-shirt?

We also think that more common sense needs to be used in this field (thus the idea of using equipment that actually has to do with what you're looking for).  If people tell you they can rid your house of evil spirits for the low, low price of $100 - we hope that your common sense kicks in and tells you it's crap.  If someone tells you their home is haunted and they keep getting a whiff of a foul smell that accompanies strange bumps in the night and they have 27 cats in their house, we hope your common sense kicks in and tells you it's not a ghost.  If there are little kids and one of them keeps getting mysterious bruises, we hope that you will consider the fact that every time no one is looking, his older brother is chunking Tonka trucks at him.  It's these things that get overlooked and called "paranormal" that got us started on our quest to call out all the stupid stuff that happens in this field.
So I'm pointing these things out to explain our position and basically say that we don't give a rat's ass if anyone likes it or not.  If you don't like it, that's your prerogative.  If you choose to do things differently, that's fine.  We take no issue with people that choose to do things differently, we take issue with the people that are idiots and want to call us out because we're different.  Who the hell cares?  HELLO - you're hunting ghosts which the general public thinks is weird anyway - so who the hell are a bunch of weird people to be telling anyone how to do anything in the first place?
